THE LOCAL YARN STORE
The local yarn store (LYS) is often spoken of within the fiber arts community as a mythical place. It is more than just a place you go to buy yarn and notions in. It is a meeting place for knitting and crochet groups and on any given Saturday you'll find two or more crafters having a visit while working on a project. It is important to identify your closest LYS, ask if they offer classes, and get to know the people who work there.
Having a particularly hard time with a project and can't find the answer online? Check to see if your LYS has a designated time for consulting an expert. Unsure if a particular yarn you like will work with your pattern? The LYS staff can help advise you. Going on a road trip? Check to see if there are any LYS in the cities or towns you are visiting and I guarantee you'll find a project to work on during the long drive.

Here are a few ways to locate your LYS:
-
Google Search/Maps
-
Ravelry.com (requires sign-in)

Don't have a LYS near you? Check to see if your town has a knitters' guild or arts league that offers classes, resources, or support. Sometimes local knitting groups will post flyers on community boards or at your public library.
