FAVORITE PATTERN DESIGNERS
Here are a few of my favorite designers to help get you started. You can find more fabulous patterns and awesome designers on the Books and Databases pages.
Connect with creators and other members of the knitting community by following hashtags on social media. Some of my favorites on Instagram are #knittersofinstagram, #cableknitting, and #knittersoftheworld. If you post your projects online, don't forget to tag or give credit to the designer. Consider including details on the type of yarn you are using and where you found the pattern to help other knitters.

A few notes on etiquette:
-
Do not contact a designer and ask for their pattern for free. Designing takes a lot of creativity, effort, and resources. Support designers by purchasing their patterns!
-
If you are stuck on a pattern, be sure to reread the instructions. Sometimes there are additional notes or guidelines about the pattern listed at the end.
-
If the pattern is posted online or in a forum, check to see if others have left comments explaining how they knit that section of the pattern.
-
There may be online tutorials that explain the technique being used.
-
Check your local yarn store (LYS) for opportunities for pattern support.
-
Check to see if the designer has left instructions on how to reach them to ask questions about their pattern.
